The Investment of a Relationship

A relationship is an investment in another person's life in expectation of mutual emotional and spiritual gain through commitment and understanding. It’s important to evaluate that relationship before too much is invested to easily divest oneself, should the probable risk of dissolution become overwhelming. Why invest so much of yourself building on that relationship, if it isn’t going anywhere, and never will.

Better off to save all that emotional energy, and expenditure of personal time and resources, for someone who will gladly seek to richly reward that very real life investment. And it really is an investment. Just like deciding to put out a certain amount of cash in a mutual fund, it’s similar to deciding to set aside a certain amount of one’s life and personal effort with the same expectation that it will be handled responsibly and in good faith, to earn a dividend in the form of growth of that investment. If it fails to return on that investment, no sense in keeping it in there; whether it’s poor management, lack of effort, or outright fraud, doesn’t matter. Cut your losses and take what’s left of your money, or your dignity, and do your research on the next potential investment, looking to specifically avoid risky ventures regardless of promised return on investment.

So what if the investment “could” yield a fifty per cent payback per year? Or per month? Or per day, for that matter, it is all for nothing (or worse) if the broker was acting sincere simply to get his hands on your cash? The fancy office, the slick portfolio, the smooth talk, the very idea of the lucrative investment, it’s simply part of the means to the end, which all the “investment” he’s going to put into it. He wants you to invest with him because he’s after the cash, as well as the power and control, since at the end of the day, he’s a dishonest broker who values cash no matter what it costs someone else.

Same with an insincere person who promises a loving, stable, fulfilling life, if you’ll just invest your life with them. So what if the relationship “could” result in a genuinely loving and committed partnership, or a marriage, or a safe, stable, productive household? The sweet talk, the flattery, the “romance”, the promises, the declarations of love, the long, intimate conversations, are worth less than a dollar store greeting card if they aren’t backed by genuine, honest intentions. They’re simply a well rehearsed, proven “program” to obtain what he wants.

In the case of the disreputable broker, he wants the cash and the feeling of power that he gets from manipulating someone else to give it to him. In the case of an insincere, fraudulent lover, he typically wants the feeling of accomplishment he gets from convincing a desirable woman to become involved with him. Often he has low self-esteem, despite his attempts to portray himself otherwise, and this is how he tries to feel good about himself without actually putting his chips on the table, so to speak. These guys will fold like a cheap suit once the “relationship” requires any semblance of sincerity. Either way, it’s merely a lucrative conquest to them; a game to be won. An honest relationship will be mutually rewarding, there will be no winner or loser. Both will receive what they invested, and realize gains and growth that would not have been possible without the mutual endeavor.

Someone who loves you:

Spends every moment with you
Distances himself from those who are openly disapproving of you
Is supportive of your issues and problems
Brings you little things that reminded him of you
Thinks about what he can do to make you smile
Smiles when he sees you, forgetting his frustrations and stress
Intervenes on your behalf with others
Remembers your birthday and does whatever he can to make it special
Looks for any opportunity to impress you

Not every person will show their love, in every one of these ways, of course. These
are just examples. Listen to your inner voice...if you genuinely don't feel loved, if
you are deeply lonely even when you are together, it isn't truly love.

Subsidizing Illegals

Maryland has just increased the tax on alcohol by 50%, car registration fees by 50%, and are working on a ten cent additional tax per gallon of gas, to name a few recent insults to the taxpaying class. But courtesy of the same career plutarchs plundering the projected fiscal windfall, you'll be getting a break on Maryland college tuition to help you get that high paying entry level position right after you graduate.

That is, if you are an illegal alien. If you've applied for residency by submitting to the lengthy and costly immigration process, undergone background checks and waited out quotas to enter this country as a law abiding visitor and potential citizen, you'll pay full, non taxpayer-subsidized rates until you become a citizen and legitimate Maryland resident. But if you've decided the American immigration process is too much hassle, that you don't want to wait, or pay the fees, and barge your way in ahead of your more deserving law abiding countrymen, reap the rewards of taxpayer subsidized education by claiming in-state tuition rates.

Who is voting these assclowns into office, and what will it take for another American revolution, to take back our country from those who siphon prosperity while stealing our freedoms?

Poverty and the Work Ethic

Unfortunately, chronic poverty and an "entitlement mentality" aka "lack of work ethic" all too frequently go hand
in hand. There's been multiple generations now, who've been raised to believe money magically appears in the mailbox every month. And they're raising their own offspring in an environment openly contemptuous of legal, productive work.

Classist is just a label, to deflect scrutiny of the sad reality, that there's a whole population of "parents" out there who pass on freeloading as their "legacy".

Shame on them. Our children, and theirs, deserve better.

Neuter your damn dog, already

 .

Neuter your damn dog, already.

Yes, I know you're raking in fifty dollars per live pup, courtesy of the pair of dogs you've acquired. The ones that look like pit bulls, and probably do have a fair amount in their immediate ancestry. Who needs papers, anyway?

That'll lift you out of poverty, improve the breed, bring joy and happiness to deserving families who've been waiting all this time, to buy a puppy just from you, because your puppies are irresistibly so cute and adorable. After all, nobody else has pups as special as yours, do they? Every one will be sold to the very best home ever, and will live out their long, healthy lives in the loving arms of that same family that handed over the pair of well worn twenties and a slightly damp stack of one dollar bills. Ten of them, you carefully counted, for a total of fifty dollars, earned hard.

Why should anyone have to pay several hundred dollars, a thousand or more, to a "professional" breeder, when they don't cost that much? It's just greed, you know. You feel good about allowing someone the privilege of owning a "pureblood" dog, for less than that fulltime kennel keeper charges for a deposit on one of next year's litter. And none of your products ever end up in the animal shelter, waiting on the magic needle, nor scattered across the asphalt or stifflegged and bloating alongside.

No, they all become a beloved, lifelong part of whatever family paid you for them.

They eagerly join their new owners who are ecstatic that they've found the perfect companion, and live happily ever, far into their dog years. Those pups are healthy, just look at 'em! Why take them to the vet for worming, or first shots, they don't need that, they're just babies after all. The new owner will be thrilled to provide excellent health care for their new friend, if they need to go to the vet, they'll be glad to take care of it. No need to spend $22.79 just for that Parvo vaccination, when they'll be needing two more in the coming weeks. A rabies and distemper shot would set you back over $40, and with six of them, that's more than you can afford, isn't it.

They're so cute at four weeks aren't they? Eyes open, toddling around like champs, and into everything. The perfect age, still tiny and cuddly, who can resist? Their mother gets up and leaves them for a few minutes at a time now, and she encourages them to mouth the beef flavored nuggets in the dogdish. Sure, let the first one go, see how he does. A sweet fifty dollars already, and five more to go.

So sad, one of them died during the night. No idea what could have happened to her, she was perfectly fine the day before. Sometime after you finished watching the race that afternoon, and before your kids streamed out the door to the school bus the next morning, she up and died. Bummer. Well, she must've been a runt or something.

Five weeks, and it's time to start putting up handwritten note cards offering your products at the quickie mart across the highway. The free bulletin board the locals post used cars and lawnmowers for sale, avon and beanie babies and dozens of other items of value, grasscutting services, yardsales and rooms for rent. And all those "free to good home" notes, with a description or maybe a picture, begging someone to take the unwanted pets off their hands. But those free pets, they're not special like yours, if they were, the owners wouldn't be giving them up, would they?

You post your note on top of the others, carefully moving the flyer advertising low cost and free spay and neuter clinics at the shelter every other Thursday, out of the way. There. Now the phone can start ringing, and you'll begin collecting on the bounty your helpless dog gratefully blesses your family with every three or four months. Hope they buy them quick, because poor mama is expecting again; and you don't want to get stuck with a couple halfgrown leftovers from the previous litter like happened last time. Had to drop them off at the shelter, so sad to see them go, but you are convinced someone will fall in love with them and whisk them off to their forever homes. Can't be stuck with two extra, growing, and unsaleable mouths to feed.

Your merchandise doesn't end its life in a laboratory, or as bait in a dogfighting ring, does it.
